I’ve written before about thinking outside of the boite when planning your wedding or engagement photo session around Paris. For many couples, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, so you don’t want to end up with 50 shots of You and Him at The Eiffel Tower. If you’ve been to Paris before, or even if you haven’t, try to schedule shots in locations that mean something to you as a couple- a cafe that you’ve always liked, for instance, or a park where you bought a killer ice-cream (even if it was just the day before). Being in an environment that offers even a touch of personal history is such a nice way to help you relax and look natural in your photos.
Cristina and Jean-Daniel are a Franco-American couple who live in Paris, and are getting married here next month. As luck would have it, Jean-Daniel’s cousin, Sophie Lemesle, is also a wedding photographer, and she came to town a few weeks ago to shoot an engagement session for them. Besides having gorgeous subjects who were so ridiculously, hopelessly en amoureux, Sophie also chose locations that were not only familiar to Cristina and Jean-Daniel, but were also classically Parisian and gave a nod to the couple’s history together in America. The results are highlighted below. If these shots don’t make you want to chuck it all in and run away to Paris, I don’t know what will!

Paris is definitely a fabulous place to shoot wedding photos !
I’ve had a blast with a couple in Paris, at the IMA (Arab World Institude, Institut du Monde Arabe). Look here : http://blog2/dotclear/index.php?post/2008/11/13/Parisian-attitude-teaser
Staying clear of the cliché shots is easy in Paris, as everything is worth photographing: you just have to avoid too popular places, or you’d better be very creative !
Kim, when I make my first trip to Paris, will you be my tour guide? I bet you know all of the “must see” places, especially those off the beaten path.
