real (parisian) wedding wednesday: paris in the 1950’s

From the beginning, Lindsay was crazy for an elegant, glamorous Chateau de Versailles look for her springtime Paris wedding. As we got to know each other over email and Skype, though,  I was completely inspired by her and her fiancé Josh’s fun, youthful energy. I was afraid that going full on, “High-Glitz” Marie-Antoinette would have been too heavy, and in the end, not really reflect their personalities. So, combining their youthfulness with their sophisticated side, I pulled together classic Christian Dior, vintage Bourjois magazine ads and images of debutante balls at the Hotel Crillon to create a “Paris in the 50’s” inspiration for their event.

On the day of their wedding, Lindsay almost eerily channeled the sweet sophistication of Grace Kelly on the cusp of becoming Her Serene Highness, Princess of Monaco,  while Josh stayed true to his playful, “Cary Grant-meets-a young JFK” nature - including partaking in a bit of pre-wedding spirits at a Parisian watering hole with his Chicago posse. For the intimate group of friends and family that were able to make the trip, Lindsay and Josh’s 1950’s-inspired Parisian wedding was truly inoubliable. Take a look:paris-wedding-make-up

a parisian winter wedding inspiration

The latest edition of the French wedding magazine Oui has just hit the newsstands, and this issue is dedicated to Les Noces d’Hiver - winter weddings. Flipping through it, I felt inspired to put together a few ideas of my own.  Now, if you’re in Paris this week and have been basking in this 80°F Indian Summer weather, you’re probably thinking, “Winter?? Say, WHAT??”- but let me tell you, the chill will be here before you know it, so you had better get your Parisian winter fabulous-ness in gear! I’m always hyping Paris in the winter to my  wedding clients because I think it’s one of the most underplayed tourist seasons.  A Parisian Destination Wedding can’t always be about sumptuous gardens and sunset cruises along the Seine, can it ? ;) Enjoy!

la fete de la musique and a romantic picnic in paris

Here’s a vintage parisian party post from a few years back which fills you in on  la Fête de la Musique:

June 21st  is la  Fête de la Musique- World Music Day, where most of Europe enjoys a day of fun, sun (hopefully) and free live music. The holiday, which actually started here in France in the 80’s, always falls on June 21st, the summer solstice, and is a chance for both professional and amateur entertainers to strut their stuff. On the Fête de la Musique, everyone seems to be in a happy mood (really- even in Paris!!), and there’s music literally at every turn.  My favorite spots in Paris for Fete de la Musique are Palais Royale (where a lot of opera singers choose to sing because of the awesome acoustics under the arches) and Place Vendôme.  Even though it falls on a week day this year, lots of people will take advantage anyway and spend the whole day out wandering the streets, listening to music and picnicking in the park.

Why don’t you celebrate your own Fête de la Musique this weekend, even if you don’t live in a country that “officially” recognizes the need for more music in the streets? A maxi sundress and a big floppy hat will help you get into that Parisian mood. Pack up a wheel of stinky cheese, some fruit, a baguette and maybe a bottle of sparkling French Lemonade. Toss it all in a basket, grab your boules set, your ipod and speakers- and you’re ready to go! Vive la musique!
