la fete de la musique and a romantic picnic in paris

Here’s a vintage parisian party post from a few years back which fills you in on la Fête de la Musique:

June 21st is la Fête de la Musique- World Music Day, where most of Europe enjoys a day of fun, sun (hopefully) and free live music. The holiday, which actually started here in France in the 80’s, always falls on June 21st, the summer solstice, and is a chance for both professional and amateur entertainers to strut their stuff. On the Fête de la Musique, everyone seems to be in a happy mood (really- even in Paris!!), and there’s music literally at every turn. My favorite spots in Paris for Fete de la Musique are Palais Royale (where a lot of opera singers choose to sing because of the awesome acoustics under the arches) and Place Vendôme. Even though it falls on a week day this year, lots of people will take advantage anyway and spend the whole day out wandering the streets, listening to music and picnicking in the park.

Why don’t you celebrate your own Fête de la Musique this weekend, even if you don’t live in a country that “officially” recognizes the need for more music in the streets? A maxi sundress and a big floppy hat will help you get into that Parisian mood. Pack up a wheel of stinky cheese, some fruit, a baguette and maybe a bottle of sparkling French Lemonade. Toss it all in a basket, grab your boules set, your ipod and speakers- and you’re ready to go! Vive la musique!

parisian events in new york times t magazine

Why, yes- that IS me in that Todd Eberle NYTimes T Magazine photo, standing in those ridiculously high Louis Vuitton shoes, on that ridiculously gilded marble fireplace in the Shangri-La Hotel, Paris. I was SO Styled to a T by the fabulous Vanessa Traina (with make-up by the equally fabulous Miss Mary Jane Frost). Just another day in the office, really….Take a look at the original article here!

where will you watch the royal wedding?

Union Jack bunting? Check. Sparkly tiaras? Check. Tea and Crumpets? Check and check! Everything is pretty much set chez nous to watch the Royal Wedding tomorrow afternoon. To tell you the truth, I had pretty much shrugged off all of the Kate-n-William hoopla over these past months. But then my parents came to visit - and if there’s one thing my mama loves it’s a Royal Wedding. I remember waking up early in the morning to watch “Lady Di’s” wedding with her when I was small, and then I realized how fun it would be to watch it with her AND Mini Me this time around- and almost in the same time-zone to boot! So, off I went to the High Street to pop into the shops for some tea and crumpets (see? I’m sounding British already, right?). I *think* what I bought were crumpets- but I picked up some other yummy pastries just in case- they’re French, but I think they’ll work in a bind. Along with the snacks I got the aforementioned sparkly tiaras and a few bits and bobs to give our salon that oh-so-British feel. And there you’ll find us tomorrow at noon, three generations of wedding-loving goofballs, dressed to the nines and getting tipsy off of teacakes.
