Pour Les Hommes

The Art of Manliness

I finally got around to joining StumbleUpon- OMG! Why didn’t someone tell me how awesomely addictive this is?? Having that little SU icon on my browser is like having my own personal morphine drip. Like every last weekend of the month, I was supposed to have spent this past weekend plodding through my monthly expenses, but this time, just when I couldn’t take the pain of that ugly old excel spreadsheet anymore, CLICK! the sweet relief of webby eye-candy. Euphoria!

Anyway, one of the blogs that I stumbled on is called The Art of Manliness and I just had to pass it along. This one if for the boy, er, homme in your life. The Art of Manliness is dedicated to the lost art of being a man. From their website,

“Generation X and Y is a generation of Lost Boys. We live in a Never-Never-Land where boys stay boys and never become men. More and more males today are putting off college, family, and adult responsibilities in order to play video games and do keg stands. Don’t believe me that today’s man is lost? How about some numbers?

  • 2/3 of men in the U.S. are overweight or obese.
  • Men only make up 42 percent of U.S. college students.
  • The average male carries around $2,369 in credit-card debt.
  • Three out of ten drink too much
  • A majority of males between the ages of 30 and 18 receive greater financial support from their parents and has more debt than previous generations.
  • The average adult man plays video games 7.6 hours per week.

The Art of Manliness is dedicated to helping men uncover what manliness means in the 21st century. What skills and knowledge should a 21st Century man acquire? What traits should they develop?

In our search to uncover the lost art of manliness, we’ll look to the past to find examples of manliness in action. We’ll analyze the lives of great men who knew what it meant to “man up” and hopefully learn from them.”

And for you nosy-barker and hint-droppers comme moi, the site has plenty of quirky, informative posts like ” Asking a Woman’s Father for her Hand in Marriage”, ” The Do’s and Dont’s of a Dinner Date” and “14 Ways to Affair Proof Your Marriage”. Very handy to keep around…http.artofmanliness.com

I love this site! Thanks for sharing.

Now I know how to hold my own in a street fight. Well maybe not hold my own but at least have a fighting chance. I quizzed my hubby on his fighting prowess and realized he would be knocked out in about 2 seconds flat. Now he knows to tip his head down and let people punch him in the forehead and to clench his teeth together when taking a blow to the face. Not that ipod engineers get into many street fights, they actually use Nerf guns to attack each other with at work, but it can help to prepare him for the mean streets of Cupertino when he walks out to his car at night. Past the campus security patrols. LOL

And yes, I love StumbleUpon too!
