I saw the most amazing French wedding dress designer at Les Coulisses de Mariages today. Her name is Mireille Etienne Brunel, and she makes the most magical, ethereal dresses that I’ve ever seen- completely out of paper! Each dress is unique, and is made out of two parts- a “secret” under layer of a sort of heavy, flexible, un-tearable paper that is custom cut to fit the bride’s body, and an over-layer (or layers) of ultra-light, airy, “friponne“- an almost transparent paper that filters light through. Working with the bride’s input, she can also add flower petals, feathers or any number of materials to create a beautiful one-of-a-kind wedding dress. The dresses are also resilient- fire and waterproof. I asked what happens when it rains, and she said that the dresses can be easily dried with a hairdryer… Really, I can’t describe how gorgeous these dresses are, and the photos don’t really convey their magic (I know I’ve said that already, but really- it’s the only word to describe them!) If you’re in Paris, try to make an appointment to visit her showroom at 37, rue de Grenelle in the 7th. Just beautiful…
