If you’re planning a wedding in Paris, and you’re stumped for a gift idea for your your groomsmen, dad, best man or hubby-to-be, try taking a trip to La Monnaie de Paris, the French Mint! Located at 11, Quai de Conti in the 6th, the gift shop of the museum is a treasure trove of chic, kitschy, elegant or just plain kooky knick-knacks mostly built around the theme of money. I’ve sifted through the bizarre and found a few items that would make really nice gifts for the guys:
If the guys in your wedding party are renting tuxedos, a really nice touch would be these French cuff links- they come in several different styles: 1 and 5 French centimes, 0 Euros, Europa, or Ecu de 6 Livres (a French coin from 1792).
If your gang aren’t really the cuff link type, how about Parisian desk accessories? Guys always seem to have piles of change and keys lying around- this bronze box would be a chic way to de-clutter his desk. Or a simple paperweight with the seal of Paris could keep his “in” pile under control. A perfect souvenir for the father-of-the-bride (or groom!).
For a more sentimental touch, there is this elegant, heart-shaped brass paperweight with the words “Le coeur n’a pas de rides” (the heart has no wrinkles) etched onto it. Répétez après moi: awww……
If you just can’t seem to make up your mind as to what get for the men in your life- why not try this velvet pouch of “decision tokens”? On either side of the three copper markers are written the words “oui” or “non“. Flip a token to help you make those tough daily decisions.
The gift shop of Le Monnaie de Paris is open Mondays - Fridays 10:00 AM - 6:15 PM, or you can visit their online boutique, which ships overseas, at www.monnaiedeparis.com
