March 20th is le Jour du Macaron (Macaron Day) in France! Created through a collaboration between renowned pastry chef Pierre Hermé and other members of the prestigious Association Relais Desserts, this year, le Jour du Macaron will raise money and awareness for the charity “Autistes Sans Frontières“. Pop into any participating patisserie- including
the Pierre Hermé boutiques in Paris, and you’ll receive a scrumptious macaron- complètement gratuit (that means they’re free)! Each shop will have a box available to accept optional cash donations to the ASF.
Just because you’re not in France this March 20th, it doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate Jour du Macaron in your own special way. Good hearts, like good macarons, can be found on all four corners of the globe. Hungary has hopped aboard the Macaron Day train this year, with their Macaron Nap - Hungarian Macaron Day. There’s also some serious macaroning going on in Toronto, Canada, as well: www.macarondayto.com.
If you want to put together your own little impromptu Jour du Macaron, check out some of these shops around the globe:
New York Ladurée Madison Avenue
San Francisco Miette
Chicago Vanille Patisserie
London Ladurée at Harrods
Manila Bizu
Berlin Toertchen Toertchen
Oslo Pascal
Melbourne Luxbite
Cape Town Daniela’s

But what makes the macaron plus d’important than chocolate? No Jour de Chocolat? Pourquois pas?
Do you know if there will be Jour du Macaron this year, 2010? I will be in Paris on March 20 and would love to celebrate. Thanks, pam
For the past few years Jour du Macaron has been the 3rd Friday in March. It was started by Pierre Hermé, so I would probably sign up for his newsletter to receive notification for when it will happen in 2010. But you know… ANY day is macaron day in my book!!
That’s for sure Kim! Thanks I’ll sign up for the newsletter.
Definitely Baroque Bistro Patisserie (http://www.baroquebistro.com.au) and La Renaissance (http://www.larenaissance.com.au) in Sydney have the best Macarons in town. I heard they’re donating proceeds of Macaron sales on Sunday 20th March, 2011 to the Starlight Children’s foundation in Australia.
