Drink (and Host) Responsibly

drink responsibly parisWhat’s the best way to put a damper on a night out before it’s even started? Why, drawing the “designated driver” card, of course. Which in fact, typically means a lose-lose situation for everyone involved. On one hand, you have the driver who spends his whole night with one eye on the clock and the other on his partner who is growing increasingly louder and decidedly less funny as the evening wears on. And on the other hand, you have the designated drinker, who’s left with “ye ole stick in the mud” who was ready to partir at 11:00PMback and safe paris after spending an hour sipping on a demi of warm Panaché. In the end, it’s the hostess who’s the real loser- she’s left frazzled and exhausted after having spent the evening running interference between a dozen half-drunk, bickering couples. Next time she should call “Back and Safe“.

“Back and Safe” is a Paris-area service that can be hired to drive your tipsy guests back home, thereby releasing the designated drivers of their responsibilities, and allowing everyone to partake in the festivities. Once hired, “Back and Safe” will set up a stand at your event, and offer breathalyser tests to the guest(s) in question. If it’s found that the guest indeed should not be driving, the Back and Safe driver will take the guests car keys, toss their nifty little fold-up “Back and Safe” scooter into the trunk of the guests car, drive them home, hop on the scooter and come back to your party for the next tippler! It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved- and a great way to drink and host responsibly. For more information, and a handy demo video, be sure to check out the Back and Safe website.

Luxury Parisian Boutique Now Online

Well, I’m back from vacation (which was fabulous, thanks for asking!) just in time to announce the opening of Alexandra Sojfer’s new online store! Located on Boulevard St Germain, this boutique has been selling the finest parasols, umbrellas and walking-sticks in Paris since 1834. (Some of you may remember when I mentioned this boutique a while back in my Sunday in The Park With George-inspired wedding theme.) Now, before you click through to AJ, here’s a heads-up: if you’re looking for a rainy-day bumbershoot- you’re better off at Isotoner. If you’re looking for a hand-crafted, couture-style work of art- then Alexandra Sojfer is for you. If this doesn’t become one of “Oprah’s Favorite Things” by year’s end, I’ll eat my beret!

Fly Away Photography Blog

destination wedding in France

If you haven’t had a chance to check out Shari Bare and Shannon Steeves’ hot new destination wedding blog, Fly Away Photography- now is the best time to do it! The infinitely modest Kimberley Petyt (tee hee) is featured in todays post, where she gives some very candid insider tips into planning a romantic wedding in Paris. While you’re there, take a look at some of their other featured destinations- like the Galapagos, Bora Bora and Mexico. And be sure to check out the details of their Fly Away Destination Wedding Contest- you only have a few more days to enter. A big “merci” to Shari and Shannon for asking Kimberley Petyt to share her love of Paris with their readers.
