Where to find the perfect Margarita in Paris?

After 6 years in Paris, people often ask me about the thing I miss most since not living in the States: Moms apple pie? (hardly! –sorry mom!) Soy latte’s? (bleh, never!) 24 hour access to almost anything you could ever want? That last one does still get to me, but I still have to say no. No, the one thing that I miss the most about not living in the States is not being able to get my margarita on!! Margaritas are this girls’ best friend. Margaritas have been with me through thick and thin, in good times and bad, for richer and poorer. Only twice have I strayed from my margarita path- and that was when I cheated with her cousin, Faux-garita, during my pregnancies. To me, nothing says lovin’ like a fishbowl-sized glass of freezing, slushy margarita- rimmed with sea salt, fat slice of lime gracing the lip… So you can imagine my sheer and utter despair (and disbelief!) when I first ordered a margarita in Paris and was served a thimbleful of tepid dishwater instead. Three sad little ice cubes floated on top. A smear of lime peel stuck to the side of the glass. No salt to be found. Sad, sad, sad!… Continue reading ‘Where to find the perfect Margarita in Paris?’

The Skinny on Getting Married in Paris

April 13, 2007

An

From the classic Technicolor dance scenes of An American in Paris to more recent films like Moulin Rouge and Amelie Poulain- for many Americans, Paris is the epitome of romance. And what could be a more romantic place to get married? For most couples, after deciding to get married in Paris, the first thing they do is make a giddy, “so crazy this just might work” phone call to their local French consulate, where they are instantly jerked backed down to earth by their first official French Non: “Mais, mademoiselle! C’est impossible! You must live in France for 40 days before you can marry in France. Impossible! Why are you calling me? Au revoir!!” Click…. And for some couples, that will be that. In a flash they’re swept directly to Plan B, their local country club with a Paris themed reception, do not pass Go, do not collect 200€…

Some couples, though, will want to see the dream through- they may choose to have a legal ceremony in their own country, and then come to Paris for a symbolic ceremony. Symbolic ceremonies aren’t legally binding, but are as romantic and as meaningful as you’d imagine them to be. I’ll post more about symbolic ceremonies in the future. This post, though, is for the hard-liners- those couples that are ready to dance with the big boys, to run the gauntlet, fight the fight… Getting legally married in France as a foreigner will be one of the strongest tests to your “coupledom” as you’ve probably gone through so far. Forget about Couples Fear Factor- If you can survive this, you can survive anything… Continue reading ‘The Skinny on Getting Married in Paris’

Not Just Another “American in Paris” Blog

wedding planner paris

“Start a blog” must be number 2 on the official “to do” list given out to American expats when they land at CDG. Americans in Paris are blogging about cooking, eating, drinking, reading, studying, parenting, photographing…if you can name it, I’m sure there is an American here doing it, and then rushing home to blog about it!

My name is Kim Petyt, and I’m an American wedding planner in Paris. I’ve been planning events for almost 10 years, both in the U.S. and in France, and own an agency called parisianevents. I cater to the Anglophone community in Paris - people who either live here on a long-term basis, or come to Paris especially for their special celebration. Since I’ve been planning weddings and events here, I’ve noticed that while Americans love to host their parties in Paris (for all of the obvious reasons that you would think - the beauty, history, glamour, elegance, etc.) they still tend to have certain “American Expectations” that they’re not ready to sacrifice- not even for Paris!

This particular blog is all about bringing you the info that you need to plan your fabulous Parisian fête- with a handful of “Anglo” thrown in for flavor! Each entry will highlight a special venue, vendor or entertainer, as well as bring you a fun parisian party tidbit- perhaps a great gift idea, a sneak peak at a new shop or venue opening, or a myriad of other items or ideas. The items that are featured in this blog are things that I like from a variety of sources, so if you know of a great vendor or resource that you think would interest parisian party, please shoot me an email at parisianparty@parisianevents.com.
